1. Overview:

New Security Updates have been issued by Oracle on Oracle's Third Party Resolution Blog website. Specific updates or alerts pertaining to this advisory are described below. The Oracle Advisory covering content outlined in this Avaya Security Advisory may be found in Multiple Buffer Overflow vulnerabilities in GIMP and contains the following security issues.

A stack-based buffer overflow in the load_preset_response function in plug-ins/lighting/lighting-ui.c in the "LIGHTING EFFECTS > LIGHT" plugin in GIMP 2.6.11 allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a long Position field in a plugin configuration file. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2010-4540 to this issue.

A stack-based buffer overflow in the loadit function in plug-ins/common/sphere-designer.c in the SPHERE DESIGNER plugin in GIMP 2.6.11 allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a long "Number of lights" field in a plugin configuration file. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2010-4541 to this issue.

A stack-based buffer overflow in the gfig_read_parameter_gimp_rgb function in plug-ins/gfig/gfig-style.c in the GFIG plugin in GIMP 2.6.11 allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a long Foreground field in a plugin configuration file. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2010-4542 to this issue.

A heap-based buffer overflow in the read_channel_data function in file-psp.c in the Paint Shop Pro (PSP) plugin in GIMP 2.6.11 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a PSP_COMP_RLE (aka RLE compression) image file that begins a long run count at the end of the image. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2010-4543 to this issue.

2. Avaya System Products using a Solaris Operating System with affected packages installed:

Some Avaya system products are delivered with a Solaris Operating System. Actions to be taken on these products are described below.

Recommended Actions:
Avaya strongly recommends that customers follow networking and security best practices by implementing firewalls, ACLs, physical security or other appropriate access restrictions. Though Avaya believes such restrictions should always be in place, risk to Avaya products and the surrounding network from this potential vulnerability may be mitigated by ensuring these practices are implemented until such time as an Avaya provided product update or the recommended Avaya action is applied. Further restrictions as deemed necessary based on the customer's security policies may be required during this interim period, but customers should not modify the System Product operating system or application unless the change is approved by Avaya. Making changes that are not approved may void the Avaya product service contract.
