SIP Enablement Services is an important component of the new Avaya Aura® next generation architecture, which consolidates several previously separate products and new components into a holistic package that makes it easier to buy everything you need for Unified Communications. Going forward, SIP Enablement Services software will be sold as part of the Avaya Aura® Branch Edition, Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition packages, which bring together all the functionality needed for common customer situations with a simple per user licensing fee.
Product Details
SIP Enablement Services provides a range of scalability and deployment options, making it suitable for customers of any size.
SIP Enablement Services improves system availability with a Network Duplication feature and support for the Avaya S8510 and S8800 servers.
SIP Enablement Services adds standards-based SIP proxy, registrar, location, and event server capabilities to Avaya Aura® Communication Manager, Avaya Aura® Communication Manager Branch, and IP Office deployments. These capabilities SIP-enable a wide array of communication services for the enterprise.
SIP Telephony
SIP Enablement Services extends the power of Avaya Aura® Communication Manager to SIP-based stations, providing a smooth migration path into SIP telephony while maximizing investment protection. Avaya one-X® Deskphone SIP for the 9600 series telephones supports advanced telephony features, including Bridged Appearances, making these SIP stations a viable alternative for the general enterprise user.
In addition to investment protection, SIP telephony provides other OPEX and CAPEX savings. SIP-based telephony deployments require a smaller hardware footprint compared to traditional H.323, digital, and analog deployments, allowing customers to reduce their recurring operational expenses and environmental impact. Avaya adherence to SIP standards allows customers to avoid vendor lock-in and control costs with the ability to deploy third-party SIP stations.
SIP Trunking
SIP Enablement Services connects Communication Manager and IP Office systems to carrier-based SIP trunks, providing a more cost-effective option for PSTN terminations. For Communication Manager, SIP trunking can be deployed with a much smaller hardware footprint compared to traditional T1 and analog trunks, significantly reducing recurring operational and maintenance expenses.
SIP Enablement Services is a Linux-based software application that is deployed as a network appliance on the Avaya S85xx Series Servers, S8800 Series Servers, or as an embedded component of Communication Manager 5.0 on the Avaya S8300C Server or on the S8300D Server beginning with CM 5.2.1 acting as main controller (a.k.a ICC). Multiple SIP Enablement Services servers can be deployed within the enterprise IP communications network. Each server is licensed to operate in one of three modes: Home, Edge, or Combo.
Avaya Aura® SIP Enablement Services Home Server
The primary functions of the Home Server:
- Extends the power of Communication Manager to Avaya SIP telephones including the 96xx Series 46xx Series, and certified third-party SIP telephones.
- Provides Communication Manager station information such as line appearances and feature buttons to Avaya 9620L, 9630/G, 9650, 9640/G SIP and Avaya Agent Deskphone 16CC telephones via the bundled Personal Profile Manager web-application
- Supports Presence and Instant Messaging, including the ability for users to control access to their presence information via a Web interface.
- Provides connectivity and routing for SIP-based Avaya Meeting Exchange, Avaya Modular Messaging, Avaya Voice Portal, and other similar applications.
Avaya Aura® SIP Enablement Services Edge Server
The primary functions of the Edge Server:
- Provides centralized administration
- Routes SIP signaling between Home servers
- Provides SIP trunking connectivity for up to 2,000 Communication Manager Branch nodes (Communication Manager location to CM Branch and vice-versa
- Provides central SIP Trunking connectivity for Communication Manager and IP Office-based locations: Communication Manager location to IP Office branch and vice-versa; Communication Manager/IP Office location to Service Provider SIP trunk)
Avaya Aura® SIP Enablement Services Combo Server
The Combo Server combines the Home and Edge functions and can be deployed on an Avaya S85xx or S8800 Series server or as an embedded component of Avaya Aura® Communication Manager 5.0 and later on the Avaya S8300C server or on the S8300D server for CM 5.2.1. The S85xx-based and S8800-based Combo Server is ideal for midsize enterprise customers with 6,000 SIP users (4500 TLS or 6000 TCP/UDP). The S8300-based Combo Server is ideal for small/midsize enterprise customers and small-of-large standalone remote offices with 450 SIP stations (100 on S8300C, 450 on S8300D).
