1. Overview:

Mozilla is an open source Web browser, advanced email and newsgroup client, IRC chat client, and HTML editor. Firefox is a popular open source Web browser. Thunderbird is a popular open source email, newsgroup and RSS client.

Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird were found to contain multiple bugs in the way they handled malformed javascript. Malicious web pages could alter the content of an unrelated open website, allowing for possible cross-site scripting attacks or information theft. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the following names to these issues: CVE-2006-1731, CVE-2006-1732, CVE-2006-1741

Numerous issues were discovered in how Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird handle select javascript actions. Malicious web pages could run arbitrary javascript commands with the permissions of "chrome", thus allowing for browser malware to be installed or information theft. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the following names to these issues: CVE-2006-1727, CVE-2006-1728, CVE-2006-1733, CVE-2006-1734, CVE-2006-1735, CVE-2006-1742

Multiple bugs were discovered in how Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird handle malformed web pages. In certain instances, a malicious web page or HTML email could cause arbitrary code to be executed with the same permissions of the user running the Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the following names to these issues: CVE-2006-0292 CVE-2006-0296 CVE-2006-0749 CVE-2006-1724 CVE-2006-1730 CVE-2006-1737 CVE-2006-1738 CVE-2006-1739

Mozilla and Firefox were found to contain a bug in the way they display the secure site icon. In select instances, the possibility exists that a user could falsely believe they are viewing a secure site. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-1740 to the issue.

The way Mozilla and Firefox allow javascript mutation events on "input" form elements was found to contain a bug which, when exploited by a malicious web page, could allow for an arbitrary file to be uploaded to the user. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-1729 to the issue.

A bug was found in the manner in which Thunderbird processes particular in-line content in HTML formatted email messages. This bug would allow a remote attacker to format a special email that, when viewed, would fetch remote content, even when Thunderbird's option for fetching remote content is disabled. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-1045 to the issue.

No Avaya System products are vulnerable, as Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird are not installed by default.

More information about these vulnerabilities can be found in these security advisory issued by RedHat Linux:
