1. Overview:

The SeaMonkey open-source software suite from the Mozilla Foundation provides a user with a Web browser, Mail and Usenet client, an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client and an HTML editing utility.

The SeaMonkey Suite is the successor to the now-deprecated Mozilla Suite of software from the Mozilla Foundation. Red Hat has announced in this advisory that the Mozilla Suite has been deprecated in Enterprise Linux 3 in favor of the SeaMonkey Suite. As a result, this advisory addresses issues in the Mozilla Suite that are now fixed in the SeaMonkey Suite.

Mozilla was found to contain numerous flaws in how select actions in Javascript were executed. If an attacker could convince a user to visit a malicious web page containing these specific Javascript instructions, the attacker could possibly run arbitrary Javascript commands resulting in possible information theft and/or the ability to install malicious software on a user's system. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the names CVE-2006-2776, CVE-2006-2784, CVE-2006-2785, and CVE-2006-2787 to these issues.

Due to the way Mozilla handled select web content, a number of possible denial of service conditions were possible in the Web browser. While these issues were not shown to be exploitable, it is theoretically possible that an attacker could craft a web page that might crash the Web browser or to execute arbitrary code on the system viewing the web page. There was also evidence to show that these issues could possibly cause memory corruption when the Web browser handled this select web content. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the names CVE-2006-2779, and CVE-2006-2780 to these issues.

Mozilla's Mail client was found to contain a double-free vulnerability when rendering improperly constructed inline vcard attachments. As a result, an attacker could possibly run arbitrary code on a user's machine if the user viewed such an E-Mail with the Mozilla Mail client. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-2781 to this issue.

Due to a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the way the Mozilla Web browser handles Unicode Byte-order-Mark (BOM) markers in Web pages with UTF-8 encoding, an attacker could use a specially crafted Web page to possibly execute scripts inside of the browser on the machine viewing the Web page. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-2783 to the issue.

The Mozilla Web browser was found to contain a vulnerability in how it handled Javascript input object mutation when processing form file upload operations. Due to this flaw, an attacker could construct a web page that could possibly upload an arbitrary local file from a user's system when the form file upload was submitted without the user being away. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-2782 to this issue.

Due to a bug in how the the Mozilla Web browser handled the Javascript "crypto.signText()" routine, a denial of service condition was possible if client digital certificates were loaded in the Web browser. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-2778 to this issue.

Due to how the Mozilla Web browser has had to allow for loose interpretations of headers in the HTTP protocol, a malicious website could possibly trick the Web browser into sending a request to a victim Web site and accepting a response from the attacker's website rather than the victim Web site. This vulnerability can be exploited via two different methods if the Web browser is configured to send traffic through certain HTTP proxy software. Additionally it can also be exploited without an HTTP proxy configured in the Web browser if the Web sites for both the victim and the attacker are at the same IP address. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-2786 to this issue.

The Mozilla Web browser was found to contain a double free vulnerability when the "nsIX509:getRawDER Javascript routine was called. If a user visited a malicious web page containing this call, the Web browser could lock up or arbitrary code could be executed on the user's machine. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-2788 to this issue.

No Avaya System products running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 are vulnerable, as seamonkey is not installed by default.

Avaya software-only products operate on general-purpose operating systems. Occasionally vulnerabilities may be discovered in the underlying operating system or applications that come with the operating system. These vulnerabilities often do not impact the software-only product directly but may threaten the integrity of the underlying platform.

In the case of this advisory Avaya software-only products are not affected by the vulnerability directly but the underlying Linux platform may be. Customers should determine on which Linux operating system the product was installed and then follow that vendors guidance:
