IBM's 1.4.2 SR7 Java release provides an implementation of the 1.4 series Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and Java Development Kit (JDK).
The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) was found to contain vulnerabilities that would allow an untrusted Java applet access to data in other Java applets. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the names CVE-2006-6736 and CVE-2006-6737 to these issues.
A security bug was found in the serialization routines in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). A malicious Java program could potentially take advantage of this and escalate its privileges. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-6745 to this issue.
The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) was found to contain buffer overflow conditions. A Java applet could possibly take advantage of these issues and elevate privileges to allow for the execution of local programs and/or read-write access to local files. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-6731 to this issue.
An attack against the digital signatures of Public Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS) #1 v1.5 was recently discussed by Daniel Bleichenbacher at the CRYPTO-2006 conference. An attacker forging a PKCS #1 v1.5 signature on an RSA key with exponent 3 could possibly cause some implementations of PKCS to believe the key had a valid signature. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-4339 to this issue.
More information about these vulnerabilities can be found in the security advisory issued by RedHat Linux:
Avaya software-only products operate on general-purpose operating systems. Occasionally vulnerabilities may be discovered in the underlying operating system or applications that come with the operating system. These vulnerabilities often do not impact the software-only product directly but may threaten the integrity of the underlying platform.
In the case of this advisory Avaya software-only products are not affected by the vulnerability directly but the underlying Linux platform may be. Customers should determine on which Linux operating system the product was installed and then follow that vendors guidance.
| Product: | Affected Version(s): | Risk Level: | Actions: |
|---|---|---|---|
| CVLAN | All | None | Depending on the Operating System provided by customers, the affected package may be installed on the underlying Operating System supporting the CVLAN application. The CVLAN application does not require the software described in this advisory. |
| Avaya Integrated Management Suite(IMS) | All | Low | See recommended actions below. |
Recommended Actions:
Avaya recommends that customers follow
recommended actions supplied by RedHat Linux or remove the affected
package.
