IBM's 1.5.0 Java release includes the IBM Java 2 Runtime Environment and the IBM Java 2 Software Development Kit.
The Applet caching mechanism of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) does not correctly process the creation of network connections which could allow a remote attacker to create connections to services on machines other than the one that the applet was downloaded from. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-5232 to this issue.
Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Java Web Start allowing an untrusted application to determine the location of the Java Web Start cache. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-5238 to this issue.
Untrusted Java Web Start Applications or Java Applets are able to drag and drop a file to a Desktop Application which could allow an attacker to move or copy arbitrary files. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-5239 to this issue.
The Java Runtime Environment allowed untrusted Java Applets or applications to display oversized windows which could allow remote attackers to hide security warning banners. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-5240 to this issue.
Unsigned Java Applets communicating via a HTTP proxy could allow a remote attacker to use a cached malicious Applet to create network connections to services on other machines. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-5273 to this issue.
Unsigned Applets loaded with Firefox or Opera browsers could allowed a remote attacker to use a cached malicious Applet could create network connections to services on other machines. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-5274 to this issue.
All users of java-ibm-1.5.0 are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, that contain IBM's 1.5.0 SR6 Java release which resolves these issues.
No Avaya system products are vulnerable, as java-1.5.0-ibm is not installed by default.
More information about these vulnerabilities can be found in the security advisory issued by RedHat Linux:
Avaya software-only products operate on general-purpose operating systems. Occasionally vulnerabilities may be discovered in the underlying operating system or applications that come with the operating system. These vulnerabilities often do not impact the software-only product directly but may threaten the integrity of the underlying platform.
In the case of this advisory Avaya software-only products are not affected by the vulnerability directly but the underlying Linux platform may be. Customers should determine on which Linux operating system the product was installed and then follow that vendor's guidance.
| Product: | Actions: |
|---|---|
| CVLAN | Depending on the Operating System provided by customers, the affected package may be installed on the underlying Operating System supporting the CVLAN application. The CVLAN application does not require the software described in this advisory. |
| Avaya Integrated Management Suite (IMS) | Depending on the Operating System provided by customers, the affected package may be installed on the underlying Operating System supporting the IMS application. The IMS application does not require the software described in this advisory. |
Recommended Actions:
In the event that the affected package
is installed, Avaya recommends that customers follow recommended actions
supplied by RedHat Linux.
