ImageMagick is an image display and manipulation tool for the X Window System that can read and write multiple image formats.
Several heap-based buffer overflow flaws were found in ImageMagick. An attacker could potentially execute arbitrary code on the victim's machine if a victim opened a specially-crafted DCM or XWD file. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-1797 to this issue.
Several denial of service flaws were found in ImageMagick's parsing of XCF and DCM files. Attempting to process a specially crafted input file in these formats could cause ImageMagick to enter an infinite loop. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-4985 to this issue.
Several integer overflow flaws were found in ImageMagick. An attacker could potentially execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running ImageMagick if a victim opened a specially-crafted DCM, DIB, XBM, XCF or XWD file. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-4986 to this issue.
A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in ImageMagick's processing of certain malformed PCX images. An attacker could possibly execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running ImageMagick if a victim opened a specially-crafted PCX file. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2008-1097 to this issue.
No Avaya system products are vulnerable, as ImageMagick is not installed by default.
This advisory is specific to versions of ImageMagik on the RedHat Enterprise Linux 2.1 Operating System (OS).
More information about these vulnerabilities can be found in the security advisory issued by RedHat Linux:
Avaya software-only products operate on general-purpose operating systems. Occasionally vulnerabilities may be discovered in the underlying operating system or applications that come with the operating system. These vulnerabilities often do not impact the software-only product directly but may threaten the integrity of the underlying platform.
In the case of this advisory Avaya software-only products are not affected by the vulnerability directly but the underlying Linux platform may be. Customers should determine on which Linux operating system the product was installed and then follow that vendor's guidance.
