1. Overview:

OpenOffice.org is an office productivity suite that includes desktop applications such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, formula editor, and drawing program.

A heap overflow flaw was found in the EMF parser. A specially crafted EMF file created by an attacker could cause OpenOffice.org to crash or possibly execute arbitrary code if the malicious EMF image was added to a document or if a document containing the malicious EMF file was opened by a victim. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-5746 to this issue.

A heap overflow flaw was found in the OLE Structured Storage file parser. (OLE Structured Storage is a format used by Microsoft Office documents.) A specially crafted OLE file created by an attacker could cause OpenOffice.org to crash or possibly execute arbitrary code if the file was opened by a victim. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2008-0320 to this issue.

No Avaya system products are vulnerable, as openoffice.org is not installed by default.

More information about these vulnerabilities can be found in the security advisory issued by RedHat Linux:
