Tomcat is a servlet container for Java Servlet and Java Server Pages technologies.
Tomcat was found to contain several issues: treating single quote characters -- ' -- as delimiters in cookies, improper handling of the \" character sequence in a cookie, a directory traversal vulnerability in the webdav servlet, and the default security policy in the JULI logging component did not restrict access permissions to files. This could allow remote attackers to obtain sensitive information, such as session IDs for session hijacking attacks, grant remote users read access as user running the Tomcat process or allow untrusted Web applications to access and write arbitrary files in the context of the Tomcat process. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the names CVE-2007-3382, CVE-2007-3385, CVE-2007-5461 and CVE-2007-5342 to these issues.
No Avaya system products are vulnerable, as Red Hat Developer Suite v.3 (AS v.4) Tomcat package is not installed by default.
More information about these vulnerabilities can be found in the security advisory issued by RedHat Linux:
Avaya software-only products operate on general-purpose operating systems. Occasionally vulnerabilities may be discovered in the underlying operating system or applications that come with the operating system. These vulnerabilities often do not impact the software-only product directly but may threaten the integrity of the underlying platform.
In the case of this advisory Avaya software-only products are not affected by the vulnerability directly but the underlying Linux platform may be. Customers should determine on which Linux operating system the product was installed and then follow that vendor's guidance.
