IBM's 1.4.2 SR12 Java release includes the IBM Java 2 Runtime Environment and the IBM Java 2 Software Development Kit.
Multiple vulnerabilities with unsigned applets were reported. A remote attacker could misuse an unsigned applet to connect to localhost services running on the host running the applet. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2008-3104 to this issue.
Two file processing vulnerabilities in Java Web Start were found. Using an untrusted Java Web Start application, a remote attacker was able to create or delete arbitrary files with the permissions of the user running the untrusted application. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the names CVE-2008-3112 and CVE-2008-3113 to these issues.
A vulnerability in Java Web Start when processing untrusted applications was reported. An attacker was able to acquire sensitive information, such as the cache location. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2008-3114 to this issue.
No Avaya system products are vulnerable, as java-1.4.2-ibm is not installed by default.

Avaya software-only products operate on general-purpose operating systems. Occasionally vulnerabilities may be discovered in the underlying operating system or applications that come with the operating system. These vulnerabilities often do not impact the software-only product directly but may threaten the integrity of the underlying platform.
In the case of this advisory Avaya software-only products are not affected by the vulnerability directly but the underlying Linux platform may be. Customers should determine on which Linux operating system the product was installed and then follow that vendor's guidance.
