Installing the PARTNER Messaging Module

Installing the PARTNER Messaging Module in a 5-slot Carrier

Follow these steps to install a PARTNER Messaging module in a 5-slot carrier:

Step

Instructions

1

Move the On/Off switch to the "Off" position ("O").

2

Remove the power cord from the wall outlet.

3

For Release 3.0 and earlier of PARTNER ACS, PARNER II, and PARTNER Plus systems, place one hand on the handle on the bottom front of the cover and place your hand on the top of the cover, and gently pull the cover up and away from the carrier. Be careful not to break the tabs that attach the cover to the carrier.
4
Remove the clear plastic protectors on the right side of the PARTNER Messaging module by grasping the tabs on the ends of the protector and lifting.

5
Insert the PARTNER Messaging module in the slot to the right of the last line/extension module. Push slowly but firmly in the center of the module until the module locks into place and is attached to the rear of the carrier. Do not force the module. If the module does not insert easily, remove it, clear any obstruction, and reinsert it.
6
Record the extensions associated with the PARTNER Messaging module on the appropriate System Planning Form.

7

Insert the Port Card (2-port, 4-port, or 6-port) in the left vertical slot (Card Slot 1) on the lower front of the PARTNER Messaging module. Make sure the arrows on the card label face up and in. Also make sure the card is pushed in all the way.

8

Plug the power cord into the wall outlet.

The power cord should hang straight down from the connector, flush against the plastic case. Do not install the power cord at an angle to the case or with a loop in it.

9 Move the On/Off switch to the "On" position ("—").
10

Check that all the green lights on the fronts of the modules are lit:

  • If a single light is out, power down the control unit, reseat the module, and power up the control unit.
  • If multiple lights are out, power down the control unit, reseat the leftmost module that has a light out, and power up the control unit.
  • If the lights are still out, call for support as instructed on the copyright page of this guide.

11

After the PARTNER Messaging module is powered up, it performs some self-diagnostic tests. When these tests are complete, the LED on the PARTNER Messaging module is either steady green (module is on and functioning properly) or steady red (the test failed). If the LED is steady red, do the following:

a. Power down the PARTNER communications system.
b. Reseat the PARTNER Messaging module.
c. Re-install the Port Card.
d. Power up the control unit again. If the LED lights steady red again, contact your local Authorized Dealer or the Avaya Technical Service Center.

12 Make sure all the modules are seated properly.
13

If you have a Release 3.0 or earlier of the PARTNER ACS, PARTNER II, or PARTNER Plus system:

a. Replace the cover by grasping it by its upper edges and holding it squarely over the control unit. Place the cover over the modules and make sure it fits firmly in place.
b. Tighten the screw on the lower front of the cover.

If the control unit is upgraded with more line/extension modules, you must do the following:
