Modifying Automated Attendant Programming

Creating a Submenu to Play a Directory List

In Release 7.0 or later, you can create a Submenu that plays a customized Directory List. The Directory List must be created before you can perform this procedure. A Submenu that plays a Directory List, referred to as a Directory Submenu, plays the list as the Submenu prompt when the Submenu is assigned to a selector code for an Automated Attendant Day or Night Main Menu or another Submenu.

If a name has not been recorded for an extension included in the Directory List, the name and extension is not heard when the Submenu prompt plays. After you or the mailbox owner record a name, the name and extension will be heard when the Submenu prompt plays. (Note, however, that when you administer the Directory List, you will hear all names and extensions that you have included in the list, even if a name has not been recorded for the extension.)

You do not need to program the selector code options for a Directory Submenu. PARTNER Messaging automatically sets the selector codes to permit direct extension transfer for all extensions in the Directory Submenu. If you are using a Directory Submenu, be sure to include a description of the directory for the selector code action in the recorded greeting for that Automated Attendant.
