Establishing a Local Session

The PARTNER Messaging module has an RS-232 serial port capable of supporting direct connection to a terminal device, such as a PC, with a serial port at a line speed of 38.4 Kbps. The connection is based on an 8-bit word, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control and no autobaud capability. An RS-232 cable with a maximum length of 25 feet can be used to connect the terminal to the PARTNER Messaging module.

You need to use the following:

  • PARTNER Messaging RS-232 Serial Port
  • 25-foot D8W Cable
  • 355AF Adapter
  • Male DB25-to-female-DB9
  • PC/Laptop with a Serial COM Port

PARTNER Messaging supports one terminal session at a time. If a session is in effect through the Remote Maintenance Device (RMD) at the time the serial connection is being established, PARTNER Messaging ignores all input from the serial connection.

When the hardware has been connected you must use a terminal emulator (such as Windows Hyperterminal) to start your terminal session.

The PARTNER Messaging system outputs startup messages to the serial port at a speed of 38.4 Kbps, prior to the loading of the voice messaging application. These messages can be captured only if a serial type device is attached to the serial port.

Once the message, "Waiting for normal mode...done" appears, startup is complete. Press Enter, then log into the PARTNER Messaging system.
