Establishing a Remote Session

You can establish a remote connection via your PC's modem to PARTNER Messaging by dial-up to PARTNER Messaging and entering the modem access code . This connects your PC's modem to the Remote Maintenance Device (RMD) using any of the licensed ports. The RMD is a modem located on the PARTNER Messaging Port Card. The RMD connection supports line speeds up to 14.4 Kbps.

There are two ways you can connect to the RMD from a remote location:

The method you use to connect to the RMD depends on how PARTNER Messaging and the communications system have been configured. Review this with the Service Consultant to determine which method you should use.

PARTNER Messaging supports one terminal session at a time. If a session is active via the serial port at the time a dial-up connection is being attempted, PARTNER Messaging displays the following message: "Local session active or port is locked please wait..." This message will continue to be displayed at 10 second intervals until the serial port connection is terminated or you disconnect from the dial-up session. If the serial port connection is terminated while the dial-up connection is attempted, the "Welcome to PARTNER Messaging" message and the login request prompt displays.

Note:
Follow the procedure recommended by your modem manufacturer to install and configure the modem. When the modem is installed, connect a basic (tip/ring) telephone set to the modem's phone jack and connect a telephone company line to the modem's line jack. If you are using a laptop with a PCMCIA-based modem, you need a duplex RJ11 jack (male connector to two female connectors) to connect the telephone to the modem.

This picture shows a typical way to interconnect the telephone, PCMCIA modem, connector, and telephone company line.
