Adding managed devices to the SAL Gateway

Before you begin

Procedure

  1. In the navigation pane of SAL Gateway page, click Secure Access Link Gateway > Managed Element.

The system displays the Managed Element page that contains the Managed Elements list. The list has four buttons: Delete, Export, Add new, and Print. You must add four new managed elements to the list.

  2. To add one of the four managed elements, for example, VSP, click Add new.
The new additions to the Managed Elements list relate to the Solution Elements in the Universal Install Product Registration Request Form that you obtained from Avaya. You must enter the four new elements as the Managed Element Models in the Managed Element Configuration page
Product Element Managed Element Model Description
    SAL VSALGW SAL_Gateway SAL instance
SP (Dom0) VSP VSP System Platform
SP (CDOM) VSPU VSPU System Platform Console Domain
Messaging VAAM Aura_Messaging Avaya Aura Messaging
    NoteNote

You must add the SAL Gateway as the first device.

  3. In the Host Name field, enter a host name for the managed device. See Planning form for installing Messaging.
  4. In the IP Address field, enter the IP address of the managed device. See Planning form for installing Messaging.
  5. To use a Network Interface Unit (NIU) port for remote access, select the NIU check box. From the drop-down list, select a value from 1 to 9.
  6. From the Model drop-down list, select the model that is applicable for the managed device.
  7. In the Solution Element ID field, enter the Solution Element ID of the device that is associated with this element as per the table above. For more information, see Registering the system.

The SAL Gateway uses the SE ID value to uniquely identify the managed device.

  8. In the Product ID field, enter the Product ID that is associated with this element as per the table above.

For more information, see Registering the system. SAL Gateway uses the Product ID value to uniquely identify the managed device associated with the alarms that originate from that device.

  9. Select the following check boxes:
    1. Provide Remote Access to this device: To enable remote access to the managed device and manage the Remote Access On/Off status.
    2. Transport alarms from this device: To send alarms from this device to the Secure Access Concentrator Core Server and manage the Alarming On/Off status.
    3. Collect Inventory for this device: To schedule an inventory at the managed device level, manage the inventory collection, and send the inventory to Avaya. With this selection, you also decide the Inventory collection schedule Every interval.
    4. Monitor health for this device: To enable health monitoring of the managed device by SAL Gateway. With this selection, you also decide the Generate Health Status missed alarm every interval. SAL Gateway generates an alarm if it does not receive a heartbeat from the managed device.
    5. Suspend health monitoring for this device: To suspend health monitoring for the managed device. With this selection, you also decide the Suspend for interval. The Suspend for interval decides number of minutes for which you want health monitoring suspended for the managed device. SAL Gateway resumes monitoring the device after the configured time elapses.
  10. Click Add.

To add another managed element, repeat Step 2 to Step 10.

Next Steps

After completing configuration of SAL Gateway, you must apply configuration changes for the configuration to take effect. This task is performed on the Apply Configuration Changes page and restarts the SAL Gateway. To minimize disruption of services and alarms, Avaya recommends that you apply configuration changes only after you finish configuration of SAL Gateway. For more information, see Applying configuration changes.
