Installing a PCI riser-card assembly

Before you begin

Reinstall any PCIe cards and reconnect any internal cables that you removed.

About this task

You must install the PCI riser-card assembly after you replace the PCIe card.

You must install the PCI riser-card assembly after you install the DIMM air baffle or replace the PCIe card.

ImportantImportant

Always use an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system when you work inside the server. For more information, see Protecting against ESD damage.

Procedure

  1. Align the PCI riser-card assembly with the PCI connector on the system board. See the following figure.
    Installing the PCI riser-card assembly
    1 PCI riser connector 2
    2 PCI riser-card assembly (full-height, half-length PCIe cards)
3 PCI riser-card assembly (low profile PCIe cards)
    4 PCI riser connector 1
  2. Align the PCI riser-card assembly with the PCI connector on the system board:
    • PCI connector 1: Carefully fit the two alignment slots on the side of the riser-card assembly onto the two alignment brackets in the side of the chassis. Align the back of the riser-card assembly with the guides on the back of the server. See the following figure.

    • PCI connector 2: Carefully align the bottom edge (the contact edge) of the riser-card assembly with the riser-card connector on the system board. Align the back of the riser-card assembly with the guides on the back of the server. See the following figure.

    Installing the PCI riser-card assembly
    1 PCI riser connector 2
    2 PCI riser-card assembly 2
    3 PCI riser-card assembly 1
    4 Alignment slots
    5 Alignment brackets
    6 PCI riser connector 1
  3. Press down on the riser-card assembly. Make sure that the assembly is fully seated in the riser-card connector on the system board.
  4. Install the cover.
  5. Reconnect the external cables and power cords.
  6. Turn on the attached devices and the server.
