1. Overview:

New Critical Patch Updates or Security Alerts have been issued by Oracle regarding vulnerabilities in the Adobe Flashplayer.

A stack-based buffer overflow in the ActionScript Virtual Machine (AVM) component in Adobe Flash Player before 10.3.183.10 on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris, and before 10.3.186.7 on Android, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2011-2426 to this issue.

A stack-based buffer overflow in the ActionScript Virtual Machine (AVM) component in Adobe Flash Player before 10.3.183.10 on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris, and before 10.3.186.7 on Android, allows attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service via unspecified vectors. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2011-2427 to this issue.

Adobe Flash Player before 10.3.183.10 on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris, and before 10.3.186.7 on Android, allows attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (browser crash) via unspecified vectors, related to a "logic error issue." The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2011-2428 to this issue.

Adobe Flash Player before 10.3.183.10 on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris, and before 10.3.186.7 on Android, allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions and obtain sensitive information via unspecified vectors, related to a "security control bypass." The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2011-2429 to this issue.

Adobe Flash Player before 10.3.183.10 on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris, and before 10.3.186.7 on Android, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted streaming media, related to a "logic error vulnerability." The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2011-2430 to this issue.

A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Flash Player before 10.3.183.10 on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris, and before 10.3.186.7 on Android, allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted URL, related to a "universal cross-site scripting issue," as exploited in the wild in September 2011. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2011-2444 to this issue.

2. Avaya System Products using a Solaris Operating System with Adobe Flashplayer installed:

Some Avaya system products are delivered with a Solaris Operating System. Actions to be taken on these products are described below.

Product: Affected Version(s): Risk Level: Actions:
Avaya IR 4.0 Low IR does not use the Adobe Flash player for any functions and it's use is not supported. Avaya will not test any issues related to this alert since the software is not used by Avaya products.

Recommended Actions:
Avaya strongly recommends that customers follow networking and security best practices by implementing firewalls, ACLs, physical security or other appropriate access restrictions. Though Avaya believes such restrictions should always be in place, risk to Avaya products and the surrounding network from this potential vulnerability may be mitigated by ensuring these practices are implemented until such time as an Avaya provided product update or the recommended Avaya action is applied. Further restrictions as deemed necessary based on the customer's security policies may be required during this interim period, but customers should not modify the System Product operating system or application unless the change is approved by Avaya. Making changes that are not approved may void the Avaya product service contract.

Mitigating Factors:

When determining risk, Avaya takes into account many factors as outlined by Avaya's Security Vulnerability Classification Policy. The following table describes factors that mitigate the risk of specific vulnerabilities for affected Avaya products:

Vulnerability Mitigating Factors
CVE-2011-2426
CVE-2011-2427
CVE-2011-2428
CVE-2011-2429
CVE-2011-2430
CVE-2011-2444
These are a Low risk as Adobe Flashplayer is installed but not used or configured by default.
