Checklist for shared application server configuration

Use the following checklist as a guide to return service to the primary Messaging system with shared application servers.

Important

Perform the following tasks only during a planned downtime for system maintenance.

Complete the tasks in the following sequence:

1	Disable routing of calls to application servers For more information, see switch configuration notes.
2	Configuring the backup storage server as inactive
2a	Backup System Platform Web Console configuration data. For more information, see Backing up System Platform.	System Platform Web Console of backup storage server	On the Backup page, select the Backup Now option to start the backup operation immediately.
2b	Backup application files. For more information, see Backing up application files.	Backup storage server	Select Messaging Application, Translations, Names, and Messages from the Messaging check box.
2c	Configure the storage server as a backup server. For more information, see Changing the storage server role.	Backup storage server	From the Role of the Server heading, select Backup. Note The system prevents MWIs and LDAP updates to all application servers after you make storage server as backup server. In the Sites / Application Servers table, select Shared from drop down for each application server.
2d	Set up storage server networking with remote Messaging systems. For more information, see Setting up remote updates.	Backup storage server	On the Manage Networked Servers Web page, select remote system and click Edit the Selected Networked Server. Set the Updates Out field to no.
2e	Stop Messaging. For more information, see Stopping Messaging.	Backup storage server
2f	Start Messaging. For more information, see Starting Messaging.	Backup storage server
3	Install a primary storage server. For more information, see Implementing Avaya Aura® Messaging.	Backup storage server	Install System Platform with the latest patches and service packs verified for use with Messaging. Install Messaging. Disable Message Mirror. For more information, see the Mutare Software product documentation. Install Communication Manager and Messaging patches.
4	Configure the primary storage server.
4a	Restore System Platform Web Console configuration data that you backed up during step 2a. For more information, see Restoring System Platform configuration information. Viewing System Platform restore history.	System Platform Web Console of primary storage server	Restore System Platform Web Console, backupcdom.tgz. Verify that restore status is `Success`.
4b	Restore data that you backed up during step 2b from the backup of primary storage server. For more information, see Stopping Messaging. Performing a restore. Starting Messaging.	Primary storage server	Stop Messaging. Restore Messaging Application, audix*.gz. Start Messaging.
4c	Configure the mail options. Configuring the mail options facilitates delivery of messages collected in the offline mode, that is, in a fail over. For more information, see Configuring the mail options.	Primary storage server	If the alias configured for both primary and backup storage servers in DNS is same, then add that alias to the Server Alias field. If not, leave the Server Alias field blank.
4d	Start Messaging. For more information, see Starting Messaging.	Primary storage server
5	Change the AxC address.
5a	Change the AxC address. For more information, see Changing the AxC IP address.	Application server	In the AxC IP address field, enter the IP address of the primary storage server.
5b	Reload User List and Global Address List.	Application server	On the Administration menu, click Messaging > Advanced (Application) > System Operations. From the Reload Caches heading: Click Reload next to the User List field to load the User List. Click Reload next to the Global Address List field to load the Global Address List.
6	Configure remote Messaging systems.
6a	Delete the backup storage server.	Remote system	On the Administration menu, click Messaging > Server Settings (Storage) > Networked Servers. On the Manage Networked Servers Web page, select the backup storage server and click Delete the Selected Networked Server.
6b	Run network data audit. For more information, see Performing the voice messaging database audit.	Remote system	Click Start Network Data Audit (Machine Translations, Network Translations, Network Data).
6c	Add the primary storage server as a networked server. For more information, see Adding a network server. Setting up remote updates.	Remote system	Add the primary storage server. Set the Updates In and Updates Out fields to yes.
6d	Add the backup storage server as a networked server. For more information, see Adding a network server. Setting up remote updates.	Remote system	Add the backup storage server. Set the Updates In field to no and Updates Out fields to yes.
6e	Request update for each remote system. For more information, see Running a remote update manually.	Primary storage server	On the Request Remote Update Web page, select remote system from the drop-down list.
6f	For each application server, reload Global Address List Cache. For more information, see Loading lists.	Application server	To load the Global Address List, click Reload Caches > Reload.
6g	Request update for the primary storage server. For more information, see Running a remote update manually.	Remote system	On the Request Remote Update Web page, select primary storage server from the drop-down list.
6h	For each application server, reload Global Address List Cache. For more information, see Loading lists.	Application server	To load the Global Address List, click Reload Caches > Reload.
7	Install a license for the primary storage server. For more information, see Implementing Avaya Aura® Messaging.	System Platform Web Console of the primary storage server
