DNS record

You can create a Canonical Name (CNAME) record for the Messaging server in DNS. A CNAME record is a type of resource record in DNS that specifies that the domain name is an alias of another canonical domain name. A CNAME record is simply a pointer to another A record. In case, you did not create A record, follow these guidelines when you create an alias:

• If you have a front-end or back-end topology, point the alias to the storage server .

• Use avayamsg as the alias. For example: avayamsg.example.com. Use this name for the Messaging documentation as a different name might confuse users.

• Ensure that your mail gateway:

  • Relays the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for the storage server.

  • Sends messages to Internet domains.

  • Grants IP access to the storage server. Some mail gateways restrict IP access.

  • Requires no SMTP authentication. Use IP-based restrictions for the mail gateway.
