Removing the DIMM air baffle

About this task

You must remove the DIMM air baffle to replace or install a memory module.

CAUTIONCAUTION

For proper cooling and airflow, replace the air baffle before you turn on the server. Operating the server with a missing air baffle might damage server components.

ImportantImportant

Always use an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system when you work inside the server. For more information, see Protecting against ESD damage.

Procedure

  1. Turn off the server and all attached devices.
  2. Label and disconnect all power cords and external cables.
  3. Remove the cover.
  4. If PCI riser-card assembly 1 contains a PCIe card, remove the riser-card assembly.
  5. Lift the DIMM air baffle out of the server. Make sure that the pin comes out of the pin hole on the system board to the left of DIMM connector 8. See the following figure.
