With the release of Avaya DEFINITY R9 software, DEFINITY supported upgrading selected circuit packs by downloading firmware to them. With the introduction of Avaya MultiVantage Software, this capability has been expanded to include our Avaya Media Gateways. The firmware download capability allows for enhancements and bug fixes without swapping out circuit packs, media modules, or motherboards. As download capabilities are enabled on additional components, the appropriate files and instructions for those downloads will be included on this page.

IF:

  • You have a Communication Manager, MultiVantage System or your DEFINITY software is Release 9 or 10, AND
  • You wish to install the latest firmware, or you have been advised by Avaya to upgrade the firmware, on any of the components listed below,

NOTE: There are two basic versions of the TN2302AP circuit pack that provide the same functionality:

A) Hardware vintage 3
B) Hardware vintages 11 and greater.

The TN2302AP was first introduced as hardware vintage 3 and was later redesigned with different components. Hardware vintages 11 and greater (HV11+) use different components but provide the same functionality as hardware vintage (HV) 3 circuit packs. HV3 circuit packs cannot be and do not need to be converted to HV11 or greater.

Because of the underlying design differences between HV3 and HV11+, different firmware is required to operate each design. While we strive to keep firmware vintages consistent between the two basic designs, bug fixes unique to a particular design may result in firmware vintage differences between the basic designs. Consequently, a higher firmware vintage (FV) for one basic design (e.g. FV60 for HV11+) does not imply higher functionality than a lower firmware vintage for the other basic design (e.g. FV55 for HV3).

***** TN2302AP Firmware Vintage 122 (FV122) for Hardware Vintage 11+ boards is recalled due to a recently found problem that in certain instances can cause dropped calls due to resets of the board’s DSPs. *****

The issue can be experienced when the board is processing VOIP calls to Avaya Modular Messaging (MM) in combination with inter-Avaya IGC or IP-trunk calls to other Avaya media processors or gateways.

This will result in multiple alarms being logged for the TN2302AP board that are cleared immediately and Communication Manager error log will contain MEDPROPT error codes 513 and 769.

The issue can be more frequent if the IGC/IP-trunks use non-G.711 codecs, e.g. G.729, G.729A, G.726, and G.723. The issue is less likely to occur when using the G.711 codec.

If the TN2302AP board is only processing calls to Avaya IP phones or there are no VOIP calls to an MM, then the problem will not occur.

This tn2302ap-h11-f121-2-sig.bin newly signed firmware file has an expiration date of March 28th, 2020, and has replaced the previous firmware file that had an expiration date of November 13th, 2011. Only the digital signature expiration date has changed. The firmware provided by the file for download to the target board is unchanged. The digital signature expiration does not affect the operation of any board already equipped with this firmware. Consequently, there is no need to  re-download a board with the same firmware vintage.

After November 13th, 2011, the previous signed firmware file cannot be downloaded to a target board, this new file will be required for the firmware upgrade process.

This version of firmware is applicable to all TN2302AP Hardware Vintage (HV) 11 and greater IP Media Processor boards. Some features are release dependent. This version of firmware is NOT compatible with TN2302AP Hardware Vintage 3.

TN2302AP HW11+ firmware vintage 121 (FV121) provides the following fix relative to firmware vintage 120.

  • FW121 fixes the problem that caused FW120 to be incompatible with Communication Manager 5.2.x (or later) port networks controlled by TN570x, TN2305x, and TN2306x Expansion Interface boards. TN2302AP's equipped with FW120 in these port networks could lock up and go out of service. This problem has been resolved.

WARNING - Firmware Vintage 120 (FW120) is incompatible with Communication Manager 5.2.x (or later) port networks controlled by TN570x, TN2305x, and TN2306x Expansion
Interface boards. TN2302AP's equipped with FW120 in these port networks can lock up and go out of service.

For these systems, Avaya recommends the use of FW118 or a future vintage higher than FW120. FW118 is compatible with Communication Manager 5.x and earlier. Note that the Simple Voice Network Statistics (SVNS) feature will not operate with FW118 equipped boards.

Any TN2302AP's installed in port networks equipped with TN2312x IPSI are not affected.

Any TN2302AP’s equipped with FW120 that are installed in systems with Communications Manager 5.1.x or earlier are NOT affected.

TN2302AP HW11+ firmware vintage 120 (FV120) provides the following fixes and enhancement relative to firmware vintage 118.

  • FV120 includes the support of the Communication Manager 5.2 Simple Voice Network Statistics feature.

  • Previously, faxes containing multiple TIFF files might not be transmitted correctly. This has been corrected.

  • FV120 improves V.17 and V.29 fax operation with a few fax machines for fax-relay/T.38 operation.

TN2302AP HW11+ firmware vintage 118 (FV118) provides the following fixes and
enhancements relative to firmware vintage 117:

  • On very rare occasion, some flash memory devices would not boot after a reset. Recycling of power in these instances will restore full service. FW118 fixes the no boot after reset problem.

  • Previous versions of firmware incorrectly reported RTCP jitter in milliseconds. FW118 correctly reports RTCP jitter in timestamp units (1/8 of a millisecond per unit). Consequently, FW118 will now correctly report the RTCP jitter to be 8 times higher than previous versions of firmware.

TN2302AP HW11+ firmware vintage 117 (FV117) provides the following fixes and enhancements relative to firmware vintage 116:

  • Previously, an unknown rtp-payload packet could cause a "beep" on the talk path. Now, TN2302AP FW117 will filter-out and ignore non-DTMF rfc2833 telephony events.
  • The number of ARPs generated by a traceroute has been greatly reduced by checking the ARP cache before generating a new ARP.
  • Echo Return Loss (ERL), Echo Return Loss Enhancement (ERLE), and bulk delay values have been added to the TN2302AP RTCP reporting feature. These parameters can be viewed on the "status station" form in CM systems containing these display fields.
  • Enhancements have been made to improve T.38 FAX interoperability with some Avaya IA770, Cantata, Cisco, and XMedius equipment.
  • Jitter buffer operation for pass-thru / clear channel mode has been improved.

TN2302AP HW11+ firmware vintage 115 (FV115) provides the following fixes and enhancements relative to firmware vintage 113:

  • FV111 introduced a bug in the proprietary fax-relay mode. If the fax signaling data was corrupted (possibly due to a noisy line or trunk) this could cause a DSP failure and alarms. This has been corrected.
  • Starting in F110, in the rare event that a hairpinned call is converted back
    to TDM bus mode, the MAC address could be corrupted. This has been fixed.
  • Traceroute has been enhanced for VMM reporting when VLAN tagging is enabled.

TN2302AP HV11+ firmware vintage 112 corrects a DSP initialization race condition present in all previous firmware releases. This race condition can, in very rare instances, cause poor voice quality in one direction (from an IP endpoint). This race condition can only occur at DSP initialization. If it occurs (the probability of this is roughly 0.1%), this state persists until the DSP is reset.

TN2302AP Firmware vintage 108 (FV108) provides the following fixes and enhancements since firmware vintage 107.

  • In CM2.2 and older systems using Media Encryption, calls between FV100-FV107 equipped boards and pre-FV100 could encounter static. This has been corrected.

  • T.38 fax operation has been improved and also now works with Interstar¿s XMedius T.38 Fax Server.

  • Fax-relay startup and compatibility with certain V.17 fax machines (14.4kbps) has been improved.

  • Previously, if a call was set up to a far-end IP address immediately before that IP address timed out in the ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) Cache, there was a slight possibility of a delay of up to 7 seconds in establishing a talkpath between the two endpoints.

Firmware vintage 107 (FV107) provides the following fixes and enhancements since firmware vintage 105. Firmware vintage 106 was not issued.

  • Stress testing of the board with extreme packet loss and jitter conditions uncovered issues that could potentially lead to one-way and no-way talk-path problems. These issues have been fixed in FV107.

  • If the link between the TN2302AP and Communication Manager is lost, the call status tables in Communication Manager and the TN2302AP can become mismatched. Previously, once the link was restored, this mismatch could result in no talk paths on some subsequent calls. FV107 recovers gracefully from the link outage, eliminating the mismatch condition.

  • Echo cancellation has been improved, resulting in faster echo cancellation.

  • T.38 FAX operation has been made more robust.

  • FV107 improves resource counting and reporting thus preventing DSP over- allocation. DSP over-allocation can cause one-way or no-way talk paths.

TN2302AP Firmware Vintage 105 (for Hardware Vintage 11 and greater) provides the following customer impacting fixes and enhancements since firmware vintage 104. Some features are release dependent.

Previously, heavy traffic on a board could cause a DSP to become overloaded, resulting in talk-path corruption. This DSP resource allocation issue has been corrected.

A problem was introduced in TN2302AP HW11+ V102 and MM760/VoIP V52 that could result in bad audio, maintenance test 1380 (TDM/NIC loopback test) failure, and in the most extreme case, DSP insanity. This problem was related to RTCP reporting. This problem is fixed in F105.

Previously, VMON could have miscalculated packet loss resulting in an incorrectly reported 100% packet loss.

Fax relay and T.38 tone detection has been improved.

  • Previously, when sending DTMF tones in RTP packets from TN2302AP HV3 to TN2602AP, sometimes the DTMF tone transmission would fail. This also can be detected on the transmit side as excessive jitter. This is now fixed. TN2302AP HV11+ boards do not have this issue.
