DB014

Alarm level

Critical.

Description

The database interface process (ORALDB) has timed out on a local or remote database request during call processing. The initial timeout has a default value of 45 seconds, defined in /vs/data/ldbdip.rc.

Such timeouts occur for any of the following reasons.

ORALDB will continue to wait for a response from the database until the final timeout occurs (The message DB015 is displayed at the final timeout). After the final timeout, (defaulted at 300 seconds), ORALDB will try to reconnect to the database. Messages queued are deleted to prevent the message queue from overflowing. Application functionality may be severely impaired.

Repair procedure

The steps that follow are suggestions. For assistance, contact your database administrator or database vendor.

To correct the problem:

  1. If the database is remote, check network and server conditions.
  2. See Troubleshooting database server disconnections for more information.

  3. If the database is local, or if it is remote and no network problems exist, check for problems with the voice response application:
    1. Determine if the application is searching a non-indexed table.
    2. If the application searches a table containing more than 1000 records, index the table.
    3. If the searched table is small or the table is indexed, check the TIMEOUT values in the /vs/data/ldbdip.rc file.
    4. The values for FIRST_TMOUT and SECOND_TMOUT should be 10 seconds or more.

  4. Increase the timeout values, if necessary.
  5. Reboot the system.
