The Sun Blade 150 hardware platform can interact with the data network by using the following components: USB, Firewire, serial port, PCI slots, and a network interface card.
USB
The platform includes four Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectors on the back of the platform. Two of these connectors are reserved for the keyboard and mouse that are part of the country kit.
Firewire
The platform provides two IEEE 1394 (Firewire) ports.
Serial port
The serial port on the Sun Blade 150 platform is used to connect to the Access Security Gateway (ASG), which is used to control dial-up access to the Avaya IR system. Configuring the serial port for bi-directional communication allows remote users to establish a connection to the system using a dial-up connection to the modem on the serial port for remote administration and troubleshooting.
PCI slots
The platform includes three 33-MHz, 32-bit peripheral component interconnect (PCI) slots, only two of which can be used for telephony cards. The long PCI connectors accept both long and short PCI cards.
The system BIOS supports PCI Plug and Play, which allows for circuit cards to be configured automatically when the system is started. Automatic configuration saves time and helps prevent configuration errors. The BIOS is compliant with the PCI Special Interest Group (SIG) PCI 2.1 specification. This PCI SIG fosters development and sponsors specifications for PCI architecture.
Network interface card (NIC)
The Ethernet network interface card (NIC) built into the Sun Blade 150 platform and the adjunct network switch are used to connect the Avaya IR system to the LAN and through the LAN to devices, including:
