Creating a Shadow Mailbox

The shadow mailbox is a special mailbox, analogous to a postmaster mailbox, that ELA uses to distribute messages. The use of a shadow mailbox prevents replies to ELA-delivered messages from being sent back to the entire enhanced list. However, you can administer enhanced-lists so that recipients can reply to the person who originally sent the message. The shadow mailbox must already exist in the system before you configure ELA.

You set up one shadow mailbox that serves all enhanced lists on the system.

To create the shadow mailbox:

  1. On the Manage Subscribers page, click Manage beside the Local Subscribers list item.
  2. On the Manage Local Subscribers page, click Add a New Subscriber.
  3. On the Add Local Subscriber page, in the Last Name field, enter a name that is useful to your subscribers, such as "Mailing List" or Enhanced-Lists Postmaster."
  4. In the Password field, enter any password. You cannot leave this field blank.
  5. In the Extension Number field, enter an unused mailbox number at which you want the shadow mailbox to be located. Make sure that this mailbox number is not administered as a station on the switch.
  6. In the Class of Service field, enter the ELA class-of-service number.
  7. In the Community ID field, enter the number of the shadow mailbox community you created.
  8. In the Email Handle field, enter the same mailbox number followed by the domain name, for instanc, [email protected].
  9. Leave the default values in all other fields.
  10. Click Save.

Verify the subscriber is added.
