Setting up an server-based measurement

You need to set up your USTAT modules as described in Chapter 3: Configuring a New CNA Server Device of the CNA Fundamentals Guide but instead of (or in addition to) configuring your Web site as described in Chapter 5: Configuring Agent-Based Measurement use the active-measurement group and related CLI commands to define agent-based measurement, either singly or in groups.

Alternately, you can obtain measurement target addresses automatically from the optional Endpoint Collector (EFC) module. See Chapter 2: Collecting Endpoint Addresses. Targets obtained from the EFC module will be added to active measurement groups with the efc enable command.

With agent-based measurement, you specify target IP addresses, type of measurement, and a schedule for contacting them.

If you specify targets as part of an active-measurement group, you can specify parameters once for all members in the group.

You can temporarily disable measuring of members of a group without removing them from the CNA configuration.

Agent-based measurement traffic utilizes the same network infrastructure--GRE tunnels between the CNA system and your edge routers, if they exist, or your policy based routing (PBR) rules--which you have configured for all other CNA traffic, as described in Chapter 2: Configuring Your Routers of the CNA Advanced Monitoring Guide.
