Defining down status for Chatter modules

The Chatter modules in a hive send heartbeat messages between themselves to ensure that all Chatter modules are functional and performing the tests assigned to them. Heartbeat messages are sent every 60 seconds. If a specific number of heartbeats are missed from a Chatter module, its status changes to down, and its tasks are redistributed between the remaining Chatter modules in the hive. By default, 10 missed heartbeats define down status for Chatter modules, but you can change this setting to any number from 1 to 255.

To change the number of missed heartbeats that define down status for Chatter modules:

  1. Access Chatter Configuration command mode. To access this mode, enter the following commands:
a. enable (Privileged mode)
b. configure terminal (Configuration mode)
c. module chatter (Chatter Configuration mode)
  1. Enter the following command:

chatter missed-heartbeats <value>

where <value> is number of missed heartbeats that defines down status for Chatter modules.

For more information on this command, see chatter missed-heartbeats in the CNA Command Reference Guide.

NOTE: For the Chatter modules to recognize each other’s heartbeat messages, all CNA servers in the hive must run the same version of CNA software. If the CNA servers run different versions of software, they will not recognize each other’s heartbeat messages, and their status changes to down.
