Configuring a test

To configure a specific agent-based measurement test:

  1. Access Chatter Active Measurement Configuration mode for the test that you want to configure. To access this mode, enter the following commands:
a. enable (Privileged mode)
b. configure terminal (Configuration mode)
c. module chatter (Chatter Configuration mode)
d. active-measurement name {rtp | ping | tcp | traceroute} (Chatter Active Measurement Configuration mode)
  1. Use the following commands to configure the test:
Table 8:  Agent-based measurement test commands
Command
Purpose
Defines the test frequency for the test over the entire agent-based measurement system. For example, if you set a rate of one per minute for RTP tests, CNA injects one RTP test per minute into the network.
Applicable for all test types.
Defines the number of times that the test is conducted.
Applicable for all test types. Enter 0 for infinite repeat.
Disables or enables topological analysis for the test. The default setting is enabled.
Topological analysis issues a traceroute between the CNA agents to discover intermediate hops and devices. This information makes it possible for CNA to identify potential hops where network disruption is present.
Applicable for all test types.
Defines the number of packets that are sent between test targets for each instance of the test.
Applicable for RTP, Ping, and Traceroute tests.
Defines the interval between packets that are sent between test targets.
Applicable for RTP, Ping, and Traceroute tests.
Defines the payload length in bytes for test packets that are sent between test targets.
Applicable only for Ping and RTP tests.
Defines the time (in milliseconds) at which the test times out if no response is received from the remote device.
Applicable for all test types.
Defines the type-of-service (TOS) byte to use when performing the test. Use this command to mark agent-based measurement traffic.
Define a TOS byte for agent-based measurement traffic if you want CNA to measure the performance of one (or more) specific TOS markings.
Applicable for RTP, Ping, and Traceroute tests.
Defines the maximum TTL (in hops) for traceroute tests.
Applicable only for Traceroute tests.
Defines the port to which the TCP test is directed. The default setting is port 80.
Applicable only for TCP tests.
Configures the test to be conducted from CNA agents to one specific IP address. If a target is not specified (the normal mode of operation), tests are performed between randomly selected pairs of CNA agents.
Applicable for all test types.
