CNA uses results from traceroute tests to automatically map the nodes and links between CNA agents. When generating this topology map, CNA identifies and merges IP addresses that belong to a single node. However, sometimes this automatic merge functionality can fail for various reasons.
If a node has multiple IP addresses (typically a router, which always has multiple interfaces with different IP addresses), CNA may sometimes split the node into multiple nodes. Or, if CNA erroneously identifies multiple IP addresses as belonging to the same device, CNA may merge the nodes into a single node.
If you notice this type of error when you view the topology map, you can manually merge intermediate hops into a single node, or you can manually split a router node into intermediate hops. The following sections describe how to perform these tasks.
