In addition to speeding up traffic between your web server and customers, clients, or anonymous web surfers, a properly configured Avaya CNA system can also optimize the flow of data among the sites in a virtual private network (VPN). CNA can optimize the full range of VPN topologies: simple hub and spoke, multi-hub, partial mesh and full mesh designs. These VPNs can be built using MPLS or IPsec-encrypted tunnels, over public Internet links or private WAN links, and various combinations of the above.
NOTE: Before beginning this section, you should have read and completed the instructions in the appropriate basic configuration chapter(s) in this guide for the CNA platform(s) you have deployed: IBM eServer xSeries. You should have also read through Chapter 2: Configuring Your Routers in this guide.
VPN deployments usually involve reaching one to more different sites over the same set of ISP or private WAN links. Typically, tunnels are defined between the sites to be connected by the VPN, and a private WAN may also provide parallel access between the same sites. The simplest case of VPN optimization targets the VPN tunnels themselves, while more sophisticated designs optimize the egress of specific VPN traffic through these tunnels.
