While still in link configuration mode, enter the polling usage interval command to establish the sampling interval for tracking usage, as well as to configure the CNA link with the sampling rate used by your service provider to determine your monthly bill.
Then enter the polling usage on command to begin polling for usage data.
Continuing with the example, the command line would look like this:
Avaya_ANS(config-engine-link)# polling usage interval 30 300 Avaya_ANS(config-engine-link)# polling usage on Avaya_ANS(config-engine-link)# end Avaya_ANS(config-engine)# end Avaya_ANS(config)# end Avaya_ANS#
The polling usage interval command in the example tells the CNA system to collect data from the edge router every 30 seconds for calculating usage, but to collect data every 300 seconds (five minutes) for calculating bills from your service provider.
Note that the collection-rate value (30) is a multiple of the billing-rate value (300); this is a requirement. It is also recommended that these rates be equal, or at least multiples of each other, across all links.
Additionally, while it is also possible to stagger the intervals at which the link monitor polls for different kinds of information--usage, BGP status, and interface status--the CNA system will operate more efficiently if all of these intervals are synchronized.
