If Preserving a 4.1 Environment Is Not Necessary

If it is not necessary to preserve a Dialog Designer 4.1 environment, install Dialog Designer 5.0 as follows:

  1. Before uninstalling Dialog Designer 4.1, make a backup copy of the projects in your workspace.
  1. Uninstall Dialog Designer 4.1, using the Add or Remove Programs Control panel option. Depending on the location of your workspace, your projects may be removed by the uninstall process.
  1. Install Dialog Designer 5.0 and associated supporting software requirements. See Ensuring System Requirements Are Met.
  1. Copy the Dialog Designer 4.1 projects (from the backup) into the Dialog Designer 5.0 workspace.
  1. Import each project into Dialog Designer 5.0. The project will then be converted for Dialog Designer 5.0.
  1. If you use a source control system, create a branch or store the 5.0 application in a different location so that the old 4.1 application can be maintained, if necessary, in the future.

Note:

After creating a new workspace during an upgrade, click Window > Preferences to configure your preferences before importing old projects. See Setting Dialog Designer Preferences for more details.
