Verifying the IP Address for Remote Machines

Complete the procedures in this section to test the ability of the system to communicate with other machines on the same LAN.

To verify the IP address for a remote machine:

  1. Start at the Administration main menu and select:
  2. Basic System Administration
         TCP/IP Diagnostics
    Send & Receive Test Packets

The system displays the Send and Receive Test Packets To & From page.

  3. Type the Internet protocol (IP) address of the system for which you want to run the test in the IP Address: field.
  4. Click Save to run the test.
  5. When the test is finished, the system displays the Test Packets Results page—Internal Test.

Note: This page is an example only. The test results displayed for your system will not match those shown here.

  6. Examine the test results that are displayed around the midpoint of the window.
  7. The percentage displayed in the packet loss field on your window will range from 0 to 100%.

  8. Evaluate the results of the test and continue with either Step 4, Step 5, or Step 6 as required.
  9. If the packet loss is from 0 to 49%, complete Step a and Step b below and then continue with Step 8:
    1. Contact the customer LAN or system administrator if the packet loss is from 10 to 49%.
    2. Check for packets out of sequence. To do this, examine the icmp_seq= field. If more than two packets are out of sequence (for example, 0, 2, 5, 3, 1...), contact the customer administrator.
  10. If the packet loss is from 50 to 99%, click Cancel and see TCP/IP Connection Troubleshooting Procedures.
  11. If the packet loss is 100%, verify that you entered the correct test IP address:

If the address you entered is correct, re-establish your network addresses, and try this test again. If the address you entered is incorrect, repeat this procedure beginning with step 1 and use the correct IP address. If this test also fails, continue with the TCP/IP troubleshooting procedures.

  12. Click Return to Main.
  13. Continue with Administering Avaya INTUITY Message Manager.
