Creating a DHCP Scope for the IP Telephones

Use the following procedure to create a DHCP scope for the IP Telephones.

  1. Select Start-->Programs-->Admin Tools-->DHCP Manager.
  2. Expand Local Machine in the DHCP Servers window by double clicking on it until the + sign changes to a - sign.
  3. Select Scope-->Create.

  1. Define the range of IP addresses used by the IP telephones listed in Table 4-2 .
  2. The Start Address should be the first IP address to be used for the IP telephones.

    The End Address should be the last IP address to be used for the IP telephones.

    The Subnet Mask should be set to the value as recorded in Table 4-2 .

    Perform the next four steps to exclude any IP addresses that you do not want assigned to IP telephones within the range specified by the Start and End Addresses.

  3. In the Exclusion Range Start Address field, enter the first IP address in the range that you want to exclude.
  4. In the Exclusion Range End Address field, enter the last IP address in the range that you want to exclude.
  5. Click the Add button.
  6. Repeat steps a. through c. for each IP Address range to be excluded.
  7. Example:

    Suppose the range of IP addresses available for your IP telephone network are:

  8. Under Lease Duration, select the Limited To option and set the lease duration to the maximum.
  9. Enter a sensible name for the Name field, such as “DEFINITY IP Telephones.”
  10. Click OK.
  11. A dialog box prompts you: Activate the new scope now?

  12. Click No.

    NOTE:

    Activate the scope only after setting all options.
