Managing DIPs and IRAPI processes

Since DIPs can be vary widely in size and complexity there is little specific information that can be given about DIP performance. However, consolidating DIPs generally improves efficiency. For instance, rather than using multiple DIPs to check the database and transfer data, combine processes into one DIP.

Additionally, DIPs should:

• Avoid using excessive memory (more than 200 pages).
• Avoid creating new processes by using fork(2) and exec(2) or system(3).
• Reduce message sending by relying on minimal communication with the voice response application.
