Display Feature

Home Screen

The Home screen is the display's home base. It remains on the display unless the user selects another screen. How the Home screen looks depends on the release of the MERLIN Messaging System.

MERLIN Messaging System Release 2.5 or Later.

If the MERLIN MAGIX system is Release 2.0 or later and the MERLIN Messaging System is Release 2.5 or later, the Home screen shows the number of new and old messages the user has on the MERLIN Messaging System (see See 4400-Series 2-Line Display Home Screen with Posted Message (MERLIN Messaging 2.0 or Later) and See 7-Line 4424LD+ Telephone Display Home Screen (MERLIN Messaging 2.5 or Later)).

A message is new until the user calls the messaging system and listens to it. If the user listens to the message but does not delete it, the message is added to the Old Message count, and the New Message count is reduced by one. If a user deletes new messages, the New Message count is reduced by one for each message deleted. Similarly, if a user deletes old messages, the Old Message count is reduced by one for each message deleted.

If the user has programmed a posted message and no call is active on the extension, Line 1 shows a ">," which indicates that the posted message is on Page 2 of the Home screen. Because 4400D, 4406D+, and TransTalk 9040 (when connected to TDL ports) telephones do not have a second page, the posted message replaces the new and old message information on Line 1, Page 1 of the display.

MERLIN Messaging System Release 2.0 or Earlier.

If the user has programmed a posted message and no call is active on the extension, Line 1 shows the posted message (see See 4400-Series 2-Line Display Home Screen with Posted Message (MERLIN Messaging 2.0 or Earlier) and See 7-Line 4424LD+ Telephone Display Home Screen (MERLIN Messaging 2.0 or Earlier)). When the user makes or receives a call, Line 1 is overwritten with call-handling information, such as a number being dialed, the name or number of a caller, and the type of incoming call. The date is shown on Line 2.

(MERLIN Messaging 2.0 or Earlier)

Regardless of the MERLIN Messaging System release, when the extension is idle, Line 2 of the Home screen shows the date and time. If the timer is running or there is a programmed Alarm button, this information is also shown on Line 2.

On a 4424LD+ or MLX-20L telephone, two pages of listings from the user's Personal Directory (a total of 16 entries) can be programmed to appear on the Home screen. The Queued Call Console does not have this capability.

When a user activates features, information on the Home screen is replaced by prompts and feedback. In general, prompts appear on Line 1, and feedback appears on Line 2.
