Add New/Change Dial Plan Mapping

Use this page to add new Dial Plan Mapping or to change an existing Dial Plan Mapping for a remote machine. Dial plan mapping is used to "map" subscriber IDs on remote machines to network addresses for use by the Message Networking system. The required length of network addresses on the system is specified by the Network Address Length field on the System Parameters page.

Notes:

  • Sample dial plans are provided to assist you in configuring dial plans for remote machines.
  • For analog, verify that the Message Networking system is allowed to make long distance calls. This capability is usually determined by Message Networking's assigned class of service on your switch. The area code, which is always required for long distance calls, might also be required if local calls require 10-digit dialing.

This page contains the following fields.

Remote Machine Name: Use the drop-down menu to select the remote machine for which you want to add or change a Dial Plan Mapping.

Map From Length: This field specifies the number of digits within each mailbox ID that the system substitutes, from 0 to 9 digits. What you enter in this field depends on the range of mailbox IDs on the system and whether different prefixes are used:

  • If you have a single range or multiple ranges that use the same prefix, type 0 in this field and leave the Map From field blank.
Note: Be careful about using 0 in the Map From Length field. If you change your dial plan later (for example, you add more extensions but have a different DID prefix) and you need to add mailbox ID ranges to the remote system, you must delete the system from the Message Networking network and add it again with the new dial plan.
  • If you have more than one range (usually to accommodate different area codes or DID prefixes), and the first digit of the Start Extension and End Extension fields for each range are unique, type 1 in this field and type 1 in the Map From field. Also type a 1 in this field if the Map From prefix is to replace the first digit of the mailbox IDs on the system.
  • If any ranges share first digits but have different prefixes, you might need to enter a number higher than 1 in the Map From Length field.
  • To add digits to the front of the subscriber IDs rather than replace digits, leave this field at the default of 0, leave the Map From field blank, and then enter the digits you want added to the beginning of each subscriber ID in the Map To field.

The first time you add a dial plan map for a remote machine, you can modify this field. For any additional dial plan maps you create, this field is read-only, as all dial plan maps for a remote machine must use the same Map From Length.

Map From: Type the actual digits that are replaced in the remote subscribers IDs (that match the digits of the first mailbox ID Start Extension and End Extension range). The number of digits in this field must match the number entered in the Map From Length. This field must be blank if the Map From Length field is 0.

For example, if the Map From Length is set to 2, and the Start Extension and End Extension range begins with 30, then you enter 30 in the Map From field.

Map To: Type the actual digits that replace the digits entered in the Map From field. If the Map From field is blank, the Map To digits are added to the mailbox ID to total the number of digits required. The system can use a uniform address length of 3 to 10 digits.

Since every system address must be unique, there might be circumstances in which the new system's mailbox ID length matches the Message Networking dial plan, but because the new system is not part of the same private network, the mailbox IDs might not be unique within the Message Networking network. This situation is common, which is why it is recommended that you use a 10-digit Message Networking dial plan.
