Port board replacement

You can add or replace Dialogic port boards in your MAS as described in this section.

Note: The number of port boards you can install in a customer-provided MAS may vary depending on the type of MAS used and the number of PCI slots available. These instructions assume that up to six PCI slots are available in the MAS, and that board installation began with the 6th PCI slot. Modify these instructions as appropriate for your model of MAS.

To replace or add a Dialogic port board:

  1. Verify that the replacement equipment is on site and appears to be in usable condition, with no obvious shipping damage.
  2. Verify that the replacement card is of the same type as the board you are replacing.

    Caution!
If you are adding or replacing a Dialogic port board, make sure that the new card is of the same type as any port boards already installed in the MAS. You cannot mix board types (such as analog boards with DSE or T1/E1) in the same MAS.

  3. Remove the old port board.
  4. Set jumpers and switches.
  5. Install the new port board.
  6. Verify new card operation.

Remove the old port board

To remove a faulty port board:

  1. If the server is already in operation, schedule down time to install the new board.
  2. When ready to begin the installation, shut down the system software and power off the system.
  3. Unplug the AC power cord for safety reasons.
  4. Remove any exterior cables connected to the port board you want to replace.
  5. Open the chassis to access the card slots.
  6. Remove any interior cables connected to the port board you want to replace. For example, a Computer Telephony (CT) bus cable is present if more than one port board is installed.
  7. Unscrew the retaining screw that attaches the port board to the chassis. Set it aside.
  8. Lift the port board out. See Replacing or adding a port board.

Set jumpers and switches

Set jumpers and switches on the port board circuit pack for board position, bus termination, and other features as follows:

  1. Remove the new port board from its packaging.
  2. Set the jumpers and switches as required for this type of board:
  3. Note: If you are replacing an existing card, verify any settings on the new card by comparing it with the old card.

  4. If you are replacing an existing card, install the replacement card in the same slot from which you removed the old card.
If you are adding a new card, install the card in the next available PCI slot. Boards should added from the rightmost slot (such as PCI slot 6) toward the center of the MAS.

Install the new port board

To install a new port board:

  1. Slide the card's edge connector into the slot connector and the card's slot retainer bracket into the slot guide. Apply pressure to the top of the card only, until the edge connector is firmly seated.
  2. Replace and tighten the retaining screw to hold the port board in place. See Replacing or adding a port board.
  3. If multiple port boards are installed, use the Computer Telephony (CT) bus cable to connect the port boards. To attach the bus cable:
    1. Position the CT bus cable so that the colored stripe on the ribbon cable faces toward the ports at the back of the chassis.
    2. Attach the end connector on the bus cable to the CT bus edge connector at the top of the card in the highest numbered slot.
    3. Connect the next bus connector to the next port board, and so on.
    4. When finished, if the cable has extra connectors or loose ribbon cable, tuck the cable down so that it does not snag when you replace the cover.
  4. Close the chassis.
  5. Reattach any exterior cables.

Verify new port board operation

To verify that the new port board is working:

  1. After the system boots, configure and test the new board as described in the Installation guide (2 MB pdf).
  2. Verify that any port board alarms are resolved. See Displaying the MAS alarm logs for more information.
