Configuring a secondary extension

You set up a secondary extension for a subscriber using the the Extension Number Options page. This secondary extension might be an alternative number used by outside callers or a number used by callers who call for a specific type of service. In any case, a secondary extension may offer specialized greetings or call handling by the subscriber that differ from greetings or call handling of the subscriber’s primary extension. This call handling could also be performed by a caller application developed specifically for the subscriber.

Note: You should already have a caller application developed before assigning its extension to a subscriber.

To configure a secondary extension for caller applications:

  1. On the Modular Messaging property page, click Extension Number Options.
  2. The system displays the Extension Number Options dialog box.

  3. To add a secondary extension, click the Add icon .
  4. A new line appears in the Subscriber extensions dialog box.

  5. Complete the following fields on the Extension Number Options tab, as required:
    • Extension number  Enter the secondary extension for the subscriber.
    • Caller application  If desired, select a caller application from the list to assign to the subscriber’s secondary extension. The caller application may or may not already have its own extension already assigned to it.
