Configuring Notify Me

With Notify Me, subscribers can use a pager, a short messaging service (SMS)-enabled digital telephone, or other device to alert them of calls to their Avaya Modular Messaging inbox. When they receive a call, Avaya Modular Messaging sends an e-mail message to a third party e-mail address. A system monitoring this e-mail address determines the actual means of notification, which is dependent on the service provider. The system might, for example, send a message to the subscriber’s numeric pager, alphanumeric pager, or SMS-enabled digital telephone.

You can enable subscribers to be notified of calls by setting the following options:

Subscribers can override notification settings using Subscriber Options.

Notes:
  • Be aware that if both notification options are enabled, subscribers may receive two notifications for the same voice message.
  • With some notification devices, the number of characters that can be sent in a message may be restricted.

To configure call notifications:

  1. On the Modular Messaging property page, click Notify Me.
  2. The system displays the Notify Me dialog box.

  3. Complete the following fields, as required:
    • Allow Notify Me  Select if you want to enable notifications for the subscriber. If you clear this check box, all the fields in the Allow Notify Me dialog box are disabled. This check box is cleared by default.
    • Send automatic notifications  Select if you want notification to be sent automatically to the subscriber when a caller leaves a voice message in their inbox.
    • Notify for  Select the type of messages for which you want to enable automatic notification. You can select:

    • Message content  This box displays the type of information that the subscriber receives in an automatic call notification, such as the caller’s telephone number, the date, and message length. To specify the type of information received, select keywords from the Message information drop-down list, or type in the keywords directly.
    • The default is “A voice message of %Priority% priority was left from %CallerPhoneNumber% at %Time% on %Date% of %Length% length.”

For example, “A voice message of urgent priority was left from 4083243000 at 16:01 on 22 January of 2 minutes length.”

For information on specifying the type of information to be received in a notification message, see Specifying call information for notification messages.
