Setting up Modular Messaging AVMA addresses

You can use Modular Messaging Alternate Voice Mail Address (AVMA) addressing for Exchange users who do not have Avaya Modular Messaging and for users of other e-mail systems, such as cc:Mail, who have a custom recipient in the Exchange directory. AVMA addressing eliminates the need for two Exchange directory entries for a single user, one for the e-mail mailbox and one for the voice mailbox, when addressing messages to Octel Analog Networking recipients from the telephone.

To set up an AVMA address:

  1. Start Exchange Administrator from the Microsoft Exchange folder.
  2. Open the user’s mailbox, and click the E-mail Addresses tab.
  3. Click New.
  4. The system displays the New E-mail Address dialog box.

  5. From the list of address types, click UM Alternate VoiceMail Address.
  6. The system displays the New UM Alternate VoiceMail Address Properties dialog box.

  7. In the Display Name field, enter the recipient’s display name.
  8. In the Address field, enter the recipient’s Octel Analog Networking address. The address includes both the prefix and mailbox number, without a separator.
  9. The address must conform to addressing scheme rules. See the Avaya Modular Messaging Concepts and Planning Guide for more information on addressing schemes.

  10. To return to the E-mail Addresses page, click OK.
  11. Click OK.
