Configuring an addressing scheme

You configure an addressing scheme by setting up a prefix or multiple prefixes for a remote Octel Analog Networking node. You may need to set up multiple prefixes if mailboxes on the remote Octel Analog Networking node are split between multiple MASs. Setting up multiple prefixes enables you to address Octel Analog Networking messages to different servers at the same site.

To configure an addressing scheme:

  1. Display the Remote Node Properties dialog box.
  2. In the Remote Node Properties dialog box, click the Add icon next to Addressing scheme.
  3. The system displays the Addressing Scheme dialog box.

  4. In the Prefix field, enter a prefix for the remote Octel Analog Networking node.
  5. A prefix is a number used to specify a remote Octel Analog Networking node when addressing messages.

  6. In the Additional digits field, enter the number of digits that the subscriber must enter in addition to the prefix to form a complete Octel Analog Networking address.
  7. As an Octel Analog Networking address consists of the prefix followed by the mailbox number, additional digits are normally the same as the mailbox length (that is, the number of digits in the mailbox number). For example,

    1234 (prefix) + 6002 (mailbox number)
= 12346002 (Octel Analog Networking address)

In this example, the additional number of digits is 4, because 4 digits (6002) must be added to the prefix to form an Octel Analog Networking address.

In some cases, however, the prefix includes some digits of the mailbox number, for example:

    1234 (prefix) + 4002 (mailbox number)
    = 123
    4002 (Octel Analog Networking address)

In this example, enter 3 in Additional Digits (for the digits 002), because the 4 overlaps.

For more information on Octel Analog Networking addressing schemes, see the Avaya Modular Messaging Concepts and Planning Guide.

  8. In the Mailbox Length field, enter the number of digits in mailboxes as configured on the remote system.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Repeat Steps 2 through 6 for each prefix in the addressing scheme.
    Notes:
    • To delete an addressing scheme, select the addressing scheme that you want to delete from the list in the Remote Node Properties dialog box, and click Delete or the Delete icon . The system prompts you to confirm your deletion.
    • To modify a prefix, double-click the prefix that you want to modify, edit the information in the Addressing Scheme dialog box, and click OK.
