MAS Alarm - VS MSS 1

Level

Major.

System Descriptor

Inaccessible MSS server(s).

Description

This alarm indicates that the affected Messaging Application Server (MAS) cannot communicate with the Avaya Message Store Server (MSS). This can be caused, among other things, by taking the Avaya MSS offline for scheduled maintenance or updates.

If you have a multiple-MAS system, each MAS that is in communication with the affected Avaya MSS should generate this alarm.

If you have a planned outage on the Avaya MSS (for a software update, for example), Avaya recommends that you manually disable MAS alarming for each MAS until the Avaya MSS is back online. For details about manually disabling MAS alarming via the Voice Mail System Configuration window, see VMSC - VMD - Serviceability - General Tab

Repair Procedure

If you see this alarm, do the following:

  1. Verify that the affected Avaya MSS is running properly and is not in offline mode.
  2. For information on how to check your Avaya MSS for proper operation, see the Avaya Modular Messaging MSS Administration Guide.

  3. If the Avaya MSS is running, verify that the connections between the MAS and the Avaya MSS are good by running ping commands for both public and private IP addresses.
  4. If the servers are able to communicate, use the Services application to check that the Modular Messaging services are configured and running properly on the MAS.
  5. For more information see MAS - Stopping and Restarting Modular Messaging Services and your Avaya Modular Messaging Installation and Upgrades Guide.

If none of these steps identifies and resolves the cause of the problem and the alarm persists, then you should contact your Avaya technical support representative for assistance.
