MAS Intro - Backing Up MAS System Data |
You can back up data on a Messaging Application Server (MAS) on a regular basis by scheduling an unattended back up, or at any time by performing an attended back up.
You can use the backed-up data to restore data to the MAS. This data includes custom tone files, custom prompt files, deployed caller applications and messages.
Note: There is no back up on a supplementary server. |
To facilitate back up, the system copies all caller application configuration data stored in *.uma files from C:\Program Files\Avaya Modular Messaging\Vserver\Callerapps to C:\Program Files\Avaya Modular Messaging\Vserver\CABACKUP. This file is then backed up to the Avaya MSS.
There are two backup files: %ComputerName%MASAll.bkf and %ComputerName%MASSingle.bkf. The first MAS, which was installed first as the Domain Controller, gets both the backup files as output. Any subsequent MAS running the MM Messaging Application Server Service only gets %ComputerName%MASAll.bkf:
The installation technician administers each MAS to automatically back up MAS data when your Avaya Modular Messaging system is installed.
The MAS performs the unattended backup using the private LAN to copy data from the MAS to the Avaya Message Store Server (Avaya MSS). After the MAS data are copied to the Avaya MSS, the files are backed up again along with critical Avaya MSS system files during the Avaya MSS unattended backup.
A scheduled task runs nightly on the MAS to run a DCT Analyze. The output file is backup.mmdct. This file is stored on C:\Program Files\Avaya Modular Messaging\Install\miscm\cfg. The scheduled backup task copies all *.mmdct files from this folder to the Avaya MSS, along with the normal backup file. The Avaya MSS then backs up the \mss1\masbackup shares.
The MAS unattended backup is usually scheduled to run one hour before midnight. You can reschedule this time, if it does not meet the needs of your company.
The system displays the Scheduled Tasks window.
You are prompted to re-enter the password of the account under which the scheduled task will run, that is privdom1\dom-admin.
You can back up MAS data at any time by performing an attended backup. You might want to do an attended backup to save new data. For example, if you create or modify custom tone files or prompts, you might want to do an attended backup to save your work.
The system displays the Scheduled Tasks window.
The Status column shows the task as running, and the system immediately starts to copy data from the MAS to the Avaya Message Store Server (Avaya MSS) using the private LAN. When the backup is complete, the Status column goes blank.
