Creating enhanced lists

This topic describes how to create enhanced lists. It is recommended that you use the Guidelines for naming enhanced lists.

To create an enhanced list:

  1. On the Manage Enhanced Lists page, click Create a New List.
  2. On the Create a New Enhanced List page, in the List Name field, enter a name for the enhanced list. Use a descriptive name such as "Denver mail list' or "Sales mail list."
  3. Select yes or no from the Permit Reply to Sender drag-down box. Yes allows members of the enhanced list to respond to messages sent through the enhanced list.
  4. In the Password field, enter a password for the enhanced list. This password is used to log in to the enhanced list mailbox to record a name or a greeting for the list. The password can be from 1 to 15 characters in length.
  5. In the Mailbox Number field, enter the mailbox number of the enhanced list. This number must be an available mailbox with the number of digits administered for subscribers on the Edit Networked Machine page for the local machine on the MSS server. Also, check the Manage Local Subscribers page to make sure the mailbox number is available.
  6. In the Numeric Address field, enter the numeric address. This address is an alternative to using the mailbox number of the ELA list, if, for example, you want subscribers to have an easy to remember number. However, the address must be unique within your messaging network. For example, you could simply enter 1, as long as no other system in your network uses this numeric address.
  7. (Optional) If you want to allow call answer messages to be sent through the list, enter the extension number administered on the switch in the PBX Extension field. Note that this extension number must be administered on the PBX so it does not have an actual telephone associated with it.
  8. In the Class Of Service field, the default ELA class of service should already appear, based on the special class of service you administered for ELA on the Configure Subscriber Management page.
  9. In the Community ID field, the default ELA community ID should already appear, based on the special community ID you defined on the Edit Sending Restrictions page and assigned on the Configure Subscriber Management page. Subscriber communities that you want to restrict from using this enhanced list should be restricted from the ELA community on the Edit Sending Restrictions page. See Administering MSS community sending restrictions for more information. Community ID 10 is recommended as the ID number for enhanced lists.
  10. In the Broadcast to All Local Subscribers? field, select as broadcast message to create a broadcast list, or off to create an ELA that does not automatically send messages to all local subscribers.
  11. (Optional) Enter the name of the enhanced list in the Email Handle field. This is the name to which subscribers might send email for enhanced list distribution. The name will automatically be generated if you leave the field blank.
  12. (Optional) Enter the name of the enhanced list in the Common Name field. This is the name that subscribers will hear if you do not record a name for the enhanced list's voice mailbox. It is also the name that will appear in subscriber's client email address books. This name will be automatically generated if you leave the field blank.
  13. (Optional) Select yes or no from the Expire Password drag-down box. If you select yes, you will have to change the password if you log in to the enhanced list's voice mailbox.
  14. (Optional) Enter additional information, if desired, about the enhanced list in the Miscellaneous1 field and the additional Miscellaneous fields.
  15. Click Save to add the new list. The Manage Enhanced-Lists page displays with the newly created list highlighted.
  16. After you create an enhanced list, you can add members to the list. See Adding members to enhanced lists.
