To
minimize the risk of unauthorized people using the Message Storage
Server (MSS), follow these guidelines for passwords:
- Use at least 6 alphanumeric and punctuation characters.
- A password cannot contain a space character or non printable characters.
- Never use obvious passwords, such as a
telephone extension, room number, employee identification number,
social security number, or easily guessed numeric or letter combinations
(for example, denver or avaya).
- Do not post, share, print, or write down
passwords.
In addition, you should immediately change
the passwords for the sa, sappp, and vm logins after your system is installed.
Once the new passwords are established, you should also establish
a regular schedule for changing the passwords, for example, at least
monthly. You can also administer your system to age the password
and notify you that a new password is required. See Managing administration accounts on the MSS for more information. Be sure to
tell any other system administrators of the change in passwords.
System administrators who log in with the sa login can
change the password for the sa, sappp, and vm logins. Voice messaging
administrators who log in with the vm login can only change the
password for the vm login.
