When a local subscriber receives a call-answer message, the system attempts to match the sender's calling party number (CPN) to a subscriber in the database. If the system finds a match, the caller is identified as a system subscriber and the local subscriber is permitted the appropriate response options (such as calling the sender or replying to the message). You can administer Modular Messaging to create the appropriate mapping and dialing rules for remote subscribers to enable the system to identify those callers as remote subscribers. Remote subscribers are subscribers on another Voice Mail Domain on the Modular Messaging system or on another messaging system within the messaging system network. See the Modular Messaging Release 3 Concepts & Planning Guide for detailed information about this functionality.
Note: Depending on the complexity of your messaging network, you might require assistance from Avaya Professional Services to plan and administer this functionality.
Complete the following basic steps to administer call answer response options for local subscribers:
- Obtain the completed Call Answer Response planning worksheet included in the Modular Messaging Concepts & Planning Guide.
- Administer telephone number mapping on the MSS.
- Administer telephone number mapping on the Message Networking system. See the procedure on Administering telephone number mapping on the Message Networking Documentation CD. This step is not required if the Modular Messaging system is not connected to a Message Networking system.
- Administer dialing rules on the MAS. For more information, see "Dialing Rules Dialog Box " in Chapter 3 of the Messaging Application Server Administration Guide (pdf).
