Removing power from an S3400-family server

Before you open an Avaya S3400-family server chassis, you must shut down the server software and remove AC power as follows:

1. Shut down the server using the correct procedure for this type of server:
• Message Storage Server (MSS):
  1. Shut down the server.
  2. Remove any disk from the DVD drive.
  3. Turn off the power by pressing the power button on the front of the MSS.
• Messaging Application Server (MAS) or a supplementary tracing server:
  1. Remove any disk from the DVD drive.
  2. Click Start > Shut Down.
  3. On the Shut Down Windows screen, select Shut down and click OK.
  4. The server shut downs the software and powers off automatically.
2. Verify that the green power lamp on the front of the server is dark. If not, press and hold down the power button to power off the server. See figure:
• MSS standard configuration (front view)
• MSS high-availability configuration (front view)

Note: In the United Kingdom, if a modem is attached to the server, you must first disconnect the telephone line from the server before unplugging any power cords.

3. Unplug all power cords from the AC connector on the back of the server.
   • The following servers have a single AC cord. See figure:
   • MSS standard configuration (back view)
   • Messaging Application Server (back view)
   • The MSS-H high-availability configuration might have one or two power switches and one or two AC cords, depending on the type of redundant power supply installed. See figure MSS high-availability configuration (back view).
     • For the vertically stacked model:
     1. Push the rocker switch on each power supply to turn off the power.
     2. Unplug the AC cord from each power supply.
     • For the side-by-side model:
     1. Push the rocker switch below both power supplies to turn off the power.
     2. Unplug the AC cord from below the power supplies.
4. Continue with Removing the front bezel and top cover.
