Installing additional software packages

This topic provides information about installing additional software packages on the Message Storage Server (MSS).

This procedure provides steps for installing additional software packages using CD or DVD media. If you are installing a service pack, see Updating the MSS software.

Note: Most software installations require you to stop the messaging software. Therefore, plan to do the software package installation during low usage hours. See Stopping the messaging software for more information.

To add software packages:

  1. Perform an attended backup. See Backing up system files (attended) for more information.
  2. Remove the DVD-RAM backup medium, if necessary. See Managing the MSS backup media.
  3. Insert the Avaya Modular Messaging Message Storage Server (MSS) Software medium in the DVD-RAM drive.
  4. On the Software Installation page, select CD/DVD.

The server displays a list of packages available on the CD or DVD medium.

Note: If you did not complete an attended backup in the last two hours, the system displays a message that a successful backup was not completed in the past two hours. Click Cancel to cancel the software update. Return to Step 1 and perform an attended backup.

  5. Select the package you want to install.
  6. Click Install selected packages.

The server displays a list of packages to be installed.

  7. Review the list, then click Proceed with installation.

The server starts the installation and displays the installation output. If you are adding software packages to the system at the console, the installation is complete when the pointer changes to an X.

  8. Verify that the software installed successfully. Use the Page Up or Page Down keys or the scroll bar to check for an installation/update confirmation entry in the installation output.
  9. If the software was installed successfully, remove the medium from the DVD-RAM drive.
  10. Insert a DVD-RAM backup medium into the DVD-RAM drive for the next unattended backup.
  11. Click Reboot.
