Administering the ELA class-of-service

The ELA COS is automatically defined when you install the Modular Messaging system. The ELA COS number is 8. The following task contains instructions for administering the class of service (COS) for ELA.

Note: The ELA COS is automatically defined for new MM installations only.

Note: The ELA COS should be used only for ELA mailboxes.

To administer the ELA COS:

  1. Start at the Messaging Administration main menu and select:
  2. Global Administration
         Subscriber Management
               Manage Classes-of-Service

The system displays the Manage Classes-of-Service page.

  3. Select the ELA COS and click Edit the Selected COS.

  4. The system displays the Edit Classes-of-Service page.

  1. Write down the COS number. You will need it later when you administer the ELA server.
  2. It is recommended that you do not change the fields other than the Restrict Client Access and the Telephone User Interface, unless absolutely necessary. The ELA COS page displays the following fields:
    • Although not required, it is recommended that you change the name of the COS to be more descriptive; for example, enter ELA in the Class of Service Name field.
    • 45 in the Retain New Messages (days) field. (This setting acts as a safety measure, should ELA encounter an operational problem and cannot send messages for a couple of days.)
    • 45 in the Retain Old Messages (days) field. (Ordinarily, there are no old or unopened messages. ELA forwards old/unopened messages in the event service is interrupted.)
    • 64 MBytes in the Maximum Mailbox Size field. This is the maximum amount of voice storage the system allows for a mailbox. Use the drag down box to select the unit measure, MBytes.
    • 45 MBytes in the Maximum Call Answer Message field. This is the maximum size of a call answer message. The value of the Maximum Call Answer Message field must not exceed the Maximum Message Length set on the system.

Note: An ELA list cannot receive a call answer message unless you administer the ELA mailbox number as an extension on the switch and set the call coverage path to the S3400 Message Server hunt group.

    • 45 MBytes in the Maximum Voice Mail Message field. This is the maximum size of a voice mail message.

Note: The value of Maximum Call Answer Message and Maximum Voice Mail Message must not exceed the system value for the Maximum Message Length. To see the current system value for the Maximum Message Length, from the Main Administration menu, click Global Administration > Subscriber Management > Configure Subscriber Management. The system displays the Configure Subscriber Management page. The Maximum Message Length field displays the current value.

    • no in the Message Waiting Indication Allowed field
    • no in the Call Me Allowed field
    • no in the Find Me Allowed field
    • no in the Notify Me Allowed field
    • yes in the Call Handling field
    • no in the Call Screening field
    • yes in the Outbound Fax Calls field
    • no in the Extended Absence Greeting Allowed field
    • no in the Page via PBX field
    • yes in the Record Mailbox Greetings field
    • no in the Caller Application Announcement Recording field
    • none in the Caller Application field
    • Select MM Aria in the Telephone User Interface field. Administrators can use the selected TUI to record a greeting or a name for the ELA. The ELA list mailbox greeting is used in call answer situations. Changing the TUI will not affect the performance or behavior of the ELA.
    • Yes in the Restrict Client Access field. When set to yes, administrators can use only the Avaya proprietary clients such as the TUI, Modular Messaging Web Client, and the Advanced Speech Access to access the ELA list mailboxes for recording greetings and list names. Changing the Restrict Client Access will not affect the performance or behavior of the ELA.
  3. Click Save to save the information in the system database.
  4. Click Return to Main.
