Setting up remote updates with specific remote systems

After you define the remote directory update capabilities for your local Avaya™ S3400 Message Server, you must define the remote directory update capabilities of each remote S3400 or Avaya™ Message Networking system.

Note: If your network contains one or more Message Networking systems, there are two different ways that you can set up remote directory updates with another S3400 system. Each S3400 system can be set up to provide updates directly to the other S3400 systems in the network (without using a Message Networking system). Or, the Message Networking system can be used to provide updates to the S3400 systems in the network (that is, in a hub-and-spoke topology). For more detailed information about setting up remote directory updates with other S3400 systems using a Message Networking system, see the Message Networking online Help.

To define the remote directory update capabilities of a specific remote system:

  1. Start at the Messaging Administration main menu and select:
  2. Global Administration
         Networked Machine Management

The Manage Networked Machine page displays the machines currently defined on the system.

  3. Highlight the remote machine for which you want to set up remote updates and click Edit the Selected Networked Machine.
  4. The system displays the current settings of the selected remote machine in the Edit Networked Machine page.

  5. Specify whether the remote machine is able to accept incoming updates and send updates to remote machines:
    • Use the Updates In? field to specify whether the remote machine is able to accept incoming updates. Select yes to accept updates or select no to restrict the remote machine from accepting incoming updates.
    • Use the Updates Out? field to specify whether the remote machine is able to send updates to remote machines. Select yes to enable the local machine to send updates to remote machines. Select no to restrict the local machine from sending updates to remote machines.

Note: You must also set up remote updates for the local machine.

  6. Click Save.

The changes are saved and the system displays the Manage Networked Machines list.

  7. Click Return to Main.
